Well after four days of "fence sitting" I decided to give the better of the two Ranchero Squires the Better of the two 429s. See, the Zurich Bean Fest is coming this Friday and Saturday and after taking the drasticly underpowered 'rough Squire the last two years and the Cougar before that, I'm ready for some smoke belching, sideways, tire frying silliness! You see, they have a cruise on Friday night through the countryside and the local residents have long garden hoses that reach the street - things get pretty gnarly at the water spots. F - U - N !!!

Now since I didn't commit to the swap until 6 PM Wednesday night, I'm now in a time crunch. I'll be swaping the stock converter for the 3800 stall aftermarket one as soon as the stock engine is out. The whole idea here is to sort out any issues before this combo ends up in the Gasser project (which is long over deadlines I set over a year and a half ago) I may even try the tunnel ram set up if time allows - I'll have to run without the hood though, because I won't cut any of the ones I've got.

I'm feeling pretty good about the swap as I 've completed the second most difficult task of disconecting the headers from the engine. The first most difficult being reconnecting them. Large Hooker headders plus large 429 plus standard engine bay = huge PITA !

My DD is finally really starting to show her age. I have a small rip in my seat (I think I can fix it though) and the AC has gone from bloody excellent to tepid. Have an appointment for that. If it is just a recharge, fine. If it is the compression, I will have to just suck it up.

I guess I can't complain too bitterly though. Car is 16 years old and despite a lot of hard driving still drives very well and does not feel squidgy like you would expect and aging car to. I have friend that driver higher performance cars that are even impressed with how it has held together. Heck, I still street race (shhhhhhhh!) with it occasionally.

Let me introduce myself. My name is Bill Basore. I am an absolute car guy. I collect Mercury Cougars ('67 and '68) and currently have 7 of them. I also run a website called ClassicCougarCommunity.Com

http://classiccougarcommunity.com/index.php

I manufacture reproduction parts for early Mustang and Cougar (Desert Classic Parts).

http://desertclassicparts.com/

And I also publish an online magazine on the web called Automotive Traveler http://automotivetraveler.com/.

It is the Automotive Traveler part that pertains to this post. To display content in a magazine format on the web typically requires some pretty expensive software and services. Historically it costs less than print, but it is still a substantial amount of money. As it turns out, so substantial that we couldn't afford to publish any new issues of AT. High cost was not the only issue. The software was Flash based and that meant that the content could not be seen o the iPhone or the iPad, and also that it was invisible to Google, so you couldn't find those articles using Google search. So we set out to find a better way, and we have succeeded. We developed our own viewer.

You can see it here.

http://automotivetraveler.com/magazine/magazine.php

All we need to put a magazine online is a PDF of the magazine. This is actually the 15th version of the viewer we have developed.

My basic idea is that we could put LFM back on line, starting with the back issues. We think that the readers will love this, and so will the advertisers.

I have some ideas for how this might provide the seed corn to make it possible for LFM to start publishing again. If any one knows how to reach Colin Date or Jeff Ford, please send me an email or PM. It won't hurt to talk, and I realize that there is no budget. I am a boot strap entrepreneur who specializes in making something out of nothing.

Okay... if you read this far, here is the bonus trivia question:

For the period from '64 to '73...

What engine was installed in the Mercury Cougar, and never installed at the factory in any Mustang?

What engine was installed in the Mustang and never installed in any Cougar?

Thanks,
